Massive Earthquake Strikes Haiti

January 13, 2010
A massive earthquake struck Haiti yesterday, collapsing buildings and burying people under the rubble.
"The whole city is in darkness, you have thousands of people sitting in the streets, with nowhere to go," said Rachmani Domersant, an operations manager with Food for the Poor.
Haiti's ambassador to the U.S. said the earthquake caused a "catastrophe of major proportions" and there are reports of mass panic, with screaming people rushing into the streets as buildings collapsed, throwing a pall of dust over the city.
The earthquake hit at 4:53 p.m. local time in a densely population area.
