Haiti Suspends Departures of Orphans

The Haitian government has temporarily suspended the departure of all orphans until in can guarantee that only legitimate options are being approved. So, for now, the government will only allow departure of orphans whose paperwork has been approved.
The “humanitarian parole” policy that allowed the departure of orphans to the U.S. on an expedited basis has thus also been suspended.
The Haitian government issued the suspension over concerns about child trafficking.
The United Nations, also concerned about child trafficking, has been establishing tent camps for thousands of Haitian children who were separated from their parents by the earthquake.
