The Citadelle
By Kevin Caruso
The Citadelle, or Citadelle Laferrière, is a large, spectacular fortress located in northern Haiti, and is one of the symbols of the country.
It is a symbol of great strength and resilience…and now, as the wonderful people of Haiti exhibit great strength and resilience in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, the symbolism of the Citadelle has taken on new meaning.
God bless the wonderful people of Haiti.

The Citadelle
The Citadelle sits atop a 3,000-foot mountain in northern Haiti

The Citadelle
The Citadelle was built by 20,000 workers from 1805-1820

The Citadelle
The walls of the Citadelle are 12-feet thick
and
rise 130-feet above the mountain top

The Citadelle
Stockpiles of cannonballs still sit at the base of the fortress walls

The Citadelle
As we view the great Citadelle,
we think of the great people of Haiti
God bless Haiti
